Curado BFS

Featured Replies

I know that I am late to the show.  I am having shoulder trouble and trying to avoid surgery so for now my regular spinning setups stay in the rod locker.  I do a lot of Ned rig and small swim bait fishing.  I have the swim bait taken care of.

After a 9 day wait I got a Curado BFS reel in last night.  I have it dialed in to my satisfaction with a 5/32 head. It has been the best weight for a while but I know that is going to change.

My question to you folks who have one, do you normally make adjustments when going lighter or heavier?  If so what kind of adjustments are you making?

I adjust it as needed based on the weight of the lure, wind, and how the rod loads. I have found most of my stuff runs between 1/16 to 1/4oz. Unlike the Curados of old where they were sort of a set it and forget it kind of reel, the Curado BFS, and pretty much any BFS reel I have fished, you need to keep an eye on it when fishing lures on the lighter end of the spectrum. This could also be my way of casting as well.

Just keep in mind the rod, reel and line all work together to make these little lures easier to cast.

Yes, some adjustments but pretty minimal if you stay in the same lure weight range… Inusually throw between 1/16-1/8 with the occasional 3/32 or maybe a 3/16.

Thanks.  I will rarely use heavier than 1/8.  I have other setups for that.

I find the Curado BFS doesn’t do well over 3/8oz. I backlash more than when I go to 1/4oz at the same dial number. Then if I add more braking I lose a good chunk of distance.

I don’t plan to use anything over 1/8 oz with this setup.  I doubt this rod could handle a 3/8 oz bait.
