Reel recommendations

Featured Replies

Putting together a new all around bank combo. I got a 7' mhf halo xdiii pro for a rod. The seviin gf looks interesting with the clicking drag kinda cool i guess but not super sold on it. Open to recommendations and input thanks fellas👍

If you’re spending $300, then get a JDM metanium for $260 and be done with it.  A JDM zillion would be a good alternative if you prefer daiwa.  In that price range, there aren’t any other reels I would be considering.

Most recently I’ve been fishing the Okuma X series reel and it is super nice! This thing is really light, fits extremely nice in my hand, braking is spot on, and it’s smooth as silk!

My fault for not being clearer. 300 budget rod and reel. So really about 200 of that going to the reel. Appreciate the input though. Ive had my eyes on a zillion for a while👌👌

Not familiar with that reel.  Personally not a fan of how the finish looks.  I'd look at the Daiwa Fuego CT for the same price.  Fuego has an aluminum frame versus graphite of the Sevin GF.  However, it's your choice.  Ultimately I think you should go for the reel that interests you the most.  It will probably make you the happiest.  :teeth:

My biggest 'step away' point on the Seviin is that it's a composite frame, not aluminum.

I'd go with a CA-80 before the Seviin - at least it's an aluminum frame reel.

Then depending how you want to split your money, I’d say what I said in another thread.  A JDM Tatula SV TW for $160 and a Falcon low rider for $130 puts you right on $300 and would be an awesome setup.  I am considering a low rider for myself right now.  I have the Cara heavy cover jig but think I want a dedicated one for buzzbaits which doesn’t need the Cara sensitivity.

The alternative would be an SLX for $130 and then an Expert for $200.  That’s a touch over, but the experts are phenomenal rods for the price.

How’s the gear set holding up? Have you serviced it? Micro module holding up?

I do service my own reels but have never had a need to go into these yet. The higher gear ratio Mets do seem to have a little bit of whine to them than the lower gear ratio ones but  it’s a very faint whine and does not bother me as long as they perform well and I’ve never had a problem out of any of my micro module gear Shimano’s. Just a faint whine in a few but other than that, all is good

JDM Tatula 100 and about $50 left over for line and lunch
