Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am looking for the most sensitive rod in thie Avid, Techna AV, Crucial price range.  Any experience with all three or two of the three?

Thanks,

Brian

I have a Fenwick Techna AV AVS70MM, St. Croix Avid AC66MF and AS66MLF. Sensitivity is NOT an issue, they are all great rods at their respective pricing point.

My AC66MF is my "all-around" baitcasting rig. I use it for all treble hook applications. However, the tip is too soft for jigs and soft plastics.

The AS66MLF is my trout, white bass and crappie rod, but it could be used for medium size bass in relatively open water. It's fun to fish.

Techna AV AVS70MM. For light and medium weight treble hook lures, this is a fine rod. I bought it to fish jerkbaits at night for walley and BIG German brown trout. The Moderate Action is ideal for this application.

I am in the process of switching over to all Fenwick rods.  I have 3 Techna AV's and for the money they are the best rods I have used.  I fish with a guy who only uses GLoomis GLX rods now, and he says the Techna AV is as sensitive as his GLX's, and it's just about as light.  It doesn't have the lifetime warranty of a Loomis, but it's half the price of a GLX.  I've heard good things about the Avid and the two St C's I've owned were both good rods.  I have no experience with Shimano rods, but I sure do love their reels.

I guess what I'm saying is I would highly recommend the Fenwick Techna AV.  Best rod for the money in my opinion.

Thanks for all the info.  It may come down to a good deal I can get on EBAY.

In that price range, look at Falcon rods as well. The lowrider series is one of the best rods I've fished, dollar for dollar.

All things considered, the Techna AV rods are the best rod for the money in my book.  In my opinion they are almost as good as the GLX rods.
