A more Premium Mono?

Featured Replies

Hard to beat Maxima Ultragreen.  That line is a staple around here for most people fishing big river fish.  Been using it as long as I can remember.

Keep in mind

6lb siege = 10lb supernatural

12lb siege = roughly 18lb supernatural (falls between 16 and 20lb)

Domestic lines like to underrate the breaking strength of their line so you will think it is really strong, truth is, its just big.

That's kind of you to say, thank you.

Siege and Elite are actually the same diameter. They just both handle so well you wouldn't know that they were actually on the thicker side of mono.

What do you find to be the pros and cons for elite vs siege?

Sufix Siege is the best I’ve used myself. It’s a little pricier than Big Game, but worth every penny. Elite is good too, Siege is the more abrasion resistant line. Maxima Ultragreen also has a great rep but is priced more like fluorocarbon so I haven’t tried it yet.

Yo Zuri hybrid is a really good copoly line as well, also worth checking out.

Siege is a bit more abrasion resistant, but I don't have a ton of experience with Elite as I only use the 4 pound on my UL setup.

I used Elite for a while until I got my first spool of Siege. It's more manageable in all respects. Now I've gone completely to Siege anytime I want mono as a top-line....I use Big Game as backing on my casting reels and Zebco Cajun as backing on my spinning reels - but that's it.

Why do you differentiate between backing between casting and spinning? Why did you choose Cajun?

I use 10# on my casting gear and 4# on my spinning - close to the diameter of main-line I use on each. Big Game doesn't come in a 4# test (lightest is 8#). Both are cheap ($10 for Big Game, $7 for Cajun in 1000yd+ spools)
