Difference between a Ned and a Grub?

Featured Replies

So, I don't fish ned rigs much. I've fished them only a handful of times in the past. I have a buddy that fishes them a lot though.

I do, however, fish a curlytail grub on a jighead. I sometimes swim it, and other times I hop it along the bottom the way a person normally fishes a ned.

I always have thought that because of the popularity of the ned, the fish see them a lot, and they rarely see a grub anymore, so it's more likely to be effective.

Opinions?

Ned is (was?) about specific presentation with very light gopher/mushroom head.  Less about the bait, if I understood Ned correctly.   However, the fact that a grub has an undulating tail makes it decidedly not Ned.

That said, nowadays ned rig seems to mean just about anything if it will sell more baits and terminal tackle.

Check out videos by/with Ned Kehde where he explains what he does; that became called the Ned Rig.

There are lots of ways to fish a Ned besides the two you mentioned.

Watch Ned Kehde’s video where he spells it out for you.  I fish Ned rigs practically every trip.  I can’t remember the last time I fished a single tailed grub.

I have been fishing grubs , half plastic worms... on a jighead for decades before I heard of a Ned. I   saved my used worms to put on a jig head. They all catch fish. Tubes and Flying lures are others that I use in the same places.I like to mix it up.
