Vanford 2000 vs Stradic 1000?

Featured Replies

School me on Vanford sizing.   I have a 1000 size Stradic so I’m familiar with its size. I’d like to maybe pick up a 1000 size Vanford.   Both JDM and domestic only list a 2000 Vanford, no 1000.   What does a 2000 Vanford compare to ?  Going on a Gloomis light power  sjr721. Vanford 2000 is it a small frame like a 1000?

I know for Stradic, USM 1000 is JDM 2000.

JDM 1000 Stradic is smaller 40-mm spool diameter - same frame, same pitch.

This is Vanquish 2000 and JDM Stradic 1000

Here's USM Vanford FA

C2000 is small frame; 2500 and C3000 are medium frame; 4000 and 5000 are large frame.

500 is not worm drive, but locomotive-drive JDM Soare 500 with Vanford markings.

Here's JDM Vanford with spool diameters listed - looks like they discontinued JDM Soare and made the micron-frame locomotive drive Vanford.

(this list is abridged, there are 7 more larger JDM models that req'd scrolling the table)

I'm fairly certain the 2000 is just a 1000 frame with a larger cap. spool.

I looked last night and it looks like the 2000 is a 1000 size reel with a shallow spool, so its actually smaller in capacity than the 1000 size. The 1000 spool is rated for 140 yards of 4 pound mono, the 2000 is only rated for 100 yards of 4 pound mono.

Thanks !  That was what I was seeing too and the fact that 2000 held less than 1000 is where I was getting hung up.   I figured a 1000 frame with 2000 spool would hold more line… but in fact it must be shallower on the 2000.  So either 1000 or 2000 sounds like it would work either way then!

In Shimano worm-drive reels, Stradic to Stella, within the 3 frame sizes share common pitch and always swap spools - also within the same series;, i.e., '18-'22; followed by '22-Stella-on.

All my Shimano spinners are '18 Stella series, and I have at least one spare spool for each frame size.  (a few more for salt finesse, night fishing, and quick change for a busted leader)

The C3000MHG Twin Power is wearing a shallow C3000S Vanquish spool, which lets me fish PE#0.6 on a long salty finesse rod.

The stock C3000MHG spool is 150-m PE#1.2

Even better.  There is no need for 100 yards of braid on a reel that size IMO.  If you're chasing fish that can run like that, a larger reel would be much better.

The real bennefit of the 2000 spool is the larger dia.  It reduces friction slight because it doesn't change direction as often when comparing to a 1000.

So long as both reels are the same gear ratio, the larger dia spool will result in a slightly higher retrieval speed.

The Vanford newest version in the size 2000 has a really nice loud audible drag clicker compared the the 2500 and 3000 series in case you were wondering.

The difference in frame size is the Vanford stem may be shorter than the Stradic.
The Vanfords 2000 drag is also upgraded vs the 1000 Stradic.
