Spinning Reels

Featured Replies

Hey Guys what spinning reels have you been most impressed with ? I have owned several brands and i have the same problem with them all, my line always tends to cut into the bail arm and create notches which then tear my line apart :'(. I am looking for suggestions on a good reliable reel to try any help will be appreciated.

I like my Quantum Energy's and my Quantum Catalyst. I know most people on here are shimano guys which is fine, shimano does make awsome reels but I've always for some reason wanted to fish Quantum Reels, must have been all the Bill Dance and In-Fisherman shows I watched when I was little. They both fished nothing but quantum reels.

I have used the Pflueger President and it was a great reel. Now I am using the

Pflueger Medalist and it is also a great reel. Hopefully I will get the new reels that

I ordered soon. They are the new Pflueger Supreme spinning reels (picture below).

What brands and models have you been using ?

Daiwa were bad for this I took clear silcone and filled the crack until I could get a new 1.

Buy with metal pal.

I have had the same issue with several of my reels.  I had this happen to a Symetre reel.  This surprised me as I pay close attention to my line and close my bail by hand.

Does anyone know what causes this?  thanks

Larry

Quantum Catalyst for my spin gear! :) ;D.  The 30's handle 20 pound steelhead and the 20's for smallies!  Great reels.

I have used both pflueger medalist and Okuma Epixor spinning reels i love both reels but i always tend to get knicks in the bail arms which just drives me crazy and creates headaches after my line breaks while fighting fish or i'll whip a bait and give it a good throw and i've had the line break and my bait go flying.

I tried some silicon but it just wore off or the line cut through the silicon.
Does anyone know what causes this?
I'm not for sure Larry but one of my thoughts is that i hold the line with my finger then reel in some and hold the line with my finger feeling for that bite. Don't take my word but i belive when we set the hook the line tightning up might be strong enough to bite into the bail arm? That's the only conclusion i can come too since i always close my bails by hand.
