Revo S or SX ?

Featured Replies

Does anyone have any input as to which reel would be better for a beginner baitcaster. The Revo S has the centrifugal braking system and the SX has a magnetic. Should I be concerned about this difference? Thanks for any input!

I have both of these reels and think both of them are awesome. As far as brakes go I wouldnt be worried about either kind, to me the only difference is ease of adjustment, but with centrifugal all you do is set 2 or 3 brakes and you'll be fine. If money is an issue then the S is the way to go, its a quality reel and for 100 bucks its a heck of a deal.  The only difference appearance wise is there is a few plastic pieces on the S where as the SX doesn't have them and the metal around the drag star and handle seems a little more stout on the SX.  Performance wise the SX is a tad smoother but not a huge difference and of course has the magnetic brakes. You cant go wrong with either of them in my opinion.

I think the external brake adjustment in the SX is worth the extra money...

Ditto...what Chris said.  You'll be thankful on a windy day when you need to dial-up the brake...and the SX is a little smoother. :)

I use my revo S,s for lures i dont change much and mostly my heavier ones like my 1/2 jigs and what not  2 rods i have with the revo s one has a 1/2 once jig and one has a zoom magnum lizard on it prob weighs 3/4 of an oz all together IMO the magnetic brake is good for smaller lures that aint so aero dynamic !!!

I got the SX and like it a lot.  The extra $50 made it worth it to me.

Absolutely........my #1 reason not to have most Shimanos

Oh nooooo!!!  Here come the Shimano police...  :)

I bought the Revo S precisely because of the centrifugal brake.  This is becasue I found my Curado (centrifugal brake) casts much better than my Viento (magnetic brake).  Maybe I was wrong in comparing the two and thinking it was the brake system (the Curado and Viento have more differences than just the brake system) that makes the Curado cast lighter lures much farther and backlash less.  Anyway, I have the S and it still casts better than my Viento; and for half the price.
