Husky Jerk vs X-Rap?

Featured Replies

The Husky Jerk is about $10 https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Rapala_Husky_Jerk_10_Jerkbait/descpage-RHJJB10.html

and the X-Rap about $15 https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Rapala_X-Rap_10_Jerkbaits/descpage-RXR.html but what is the difference in use?

Why would one prefer the X-Rap? Is it generally considered better? I don't see any difference other than the dressed treble hook.

The main difference is their action.  When jerked, snapped or twitched, the XRap has a much more erratic action.  This bait can be a fish magnet.  The Husky Jerk doesn’t slash as much when jerked or twitched, and has a tighter wobble on a steady retrieve.  The Husky Jerk seems to me to suspend better, but I tend to rely on shorter pauses with the XRap so it may not be a fair comparison.  The Husky Jerk’s less erratic action makes it my choice for colder water, and on occasions I think the fish are looking for  something whose action is more predictable and requires less effort to chase down.

@OldManLure that pretty much sums it up. Also the HJ offers a deep diver which will get down to 20’ on light braid.

Thanks @OldManLure, that is exactly the information I need.

I was going to say HJ for colder water and Xrap for warm.  That said I never caught much with the Xrap. For warm water erratic I like the Team Daiwa Minnow.

Rapala introduced the Husky Jerk lure well over 25 years ago their 1st minnow jerk bait heavy enough to be cast with casting tackle. XRap is Rapala answer to Megabass jerk baits.

Daiwa TD minnow pre dates LC Pointers, not well known but very good jerk bait.

I love the HJ. It is  killer jerk bait for bass in warm or cold water. It is easy to cast on a spinning rig, and not bad to cast on a baitcaster. I often replace the hooks with a slightly larger size as I find that give me better hook ups and also makes the bait suspend ...or actually sink very slowly...a bit better As a bonus, it is also great for Walleye and Musky or Plke. The x-rap is also a good bait, but I have had more success with the HJ, and the price is a little easier to handle.
