Lead weights getting oxide.

What can I do to keep lead weights from turning white, IE, getting lead oxide? I know, use them, but I want to stock up on more than a a dozen.

I've had a bag of weights in my bag for a year that started to get white.

How long can I store them in the house?

You shouldn’t have white corrosion products on lead. If you do it’s carbonate in the lead and vinegar water solution should neutralize it. Be careful as lead oxides can be  harmful.

Thanks. I'm familiar with the hazards of lead and lead oxide, no worries there.

I just don't know how to prevent it.

Try spraying with WD-40 and wiping then off.

I think that would probably work well. Some walleye guides swear by it as a scent attractant.

Lead isn't going away.  Europe is loaded with lead water pipes,  some  dating back to the Romans.

Yes to vinegar cleaning.  Boeshield will wax and protect better than WD40
