Drop shotting ?

Featured Replies

I was just pondering around the idea of dropshotting a rogue.  Anyone do this with sucess?

It's something I don't do as much as I should, mostly because I fish shallower water most of the time.  It will work in shallow water, but it is more suited for deeper water where you can fish vertically (at least in my book).  I have also been at a disadvantage for awhile because the depth finders in my boat haven't been working, but I am back up now and plan to locate some spots on my local lake where I can pull out the long spinner rod and shake a few in their faces.

It does work, and can be a great technique - but it is a much slower presentation and you have to be patient.  Also, don't try to overpower the presentation -- subtle movements, subtle strikes and less agressive hook sets.

I probably need to reword my post.  I got in a hurry.

I was thinking of using a modified DS for suspenidng jerkbaits as a cast and slow retrieve.  with the ds and a tight line the lure would always stay at one depth unless the contour changed.  The only problem I can for see is the weight getting tangled in the hooks.  Whats you guys thoughts on this?

I think you are just asking for trouble with casting, retrieve, hook-up and fight.

Suspending jerkbaits will maintain depth thoughout most of the retrieve.

Be sure to use some of those $20 Lucky Craft baits instead of those cheap Rogues. ;D ;D
