Chatterbaits on Dobyns Kaden (KD) 735Cb?

Featured Replies

I bought or traded for 8 new rods and reels this winter. I have been mentally sorting out which combo to throw each lure on. I have a Dobyns Kaden 735CB i bought and thought I'd try throwing chatterbaits on it. Anyone have experience using chatterbaits/jackhammers on the 735CB?

I do not have that exact rod but I have used the kaden 714 for chatterbaits with mono before when I didn’t have another rod with me on the kayak(I only carry 3). It worked decently well but I think a little more moderate would have been better. I think the rod you have would be fine for maybe up to 3/8 and then you might want something more powerful for a 1/2 ounce bladed jig. Just my opinion tho it could definitely work.

I have a champion 706cb and used to have a Fury 705cb.  I prefer a faster rod for chatterbaits, though I rarely catch any bass when straight reeling.  My best is usually hugging the bottom with a short chop reeling style combined with some dragging.  All that said, I think my 706cb paired with braid to leader, would be able to get the job done when paired with a quality reel set, hookset.

I have a 5 power Dobyns CB rod, I would think the bladed jig would overpower it. 6 power would be better, but YMMV. Since you have the rod already, I would say to give it a shot and see how it works for you.
