Comparable Megabass Karashi lures?

Featured Replies

I see these are about $18 while some...such as LureTV brand...are less than half the price.  Anyone fishing a lower priced Karashi?  How well does it compare? Thanks.

I haven’t fished a comparable lure. Somebody out there, Sugartit or alternative lures maybe, has a KO version blank. The review I read seemed ok-ish. Said it didn’t fish like the real thing…am tempted to buy some to paint up and see myself…

I am fishing them along with the Karashi. And I have put a fair amount of tuning effort that others may find useful.

First, they don't come with the tails. So it sinks faster. The hooks are also heavier which contributes to the effect. Note the thicker front treble on the bottom bait in first photo. Top bait is real Karashi.

So I weighed the stock Karashi tail hook and counted the strands. .245 gram

Tried the ST36, but too heavy.

Settled on the ST26!

Then I ordered some Mylar, watched a couple quick videos and made my own tails! And they came in lighter than stock Karashi! In final photo, the top 3 baits are copies. Real Karashi on bottom.

I think they turned out well and slow the sink rate making them perform closer to the Karashi.

I've bought a few off Ali and Temu and had pretty good success with them. I've never fished a real one, so I can't compare the action, but they're good enough to get bit and offer a different enough action to warrant carrying them.
