Weird G Loomis Rod Model?

Featured Replies

Just saw an MUR 843C on sale. Weird; I am not familiar with MUR as a legit G Loomis model. MBR of course yes. And the lure weight rating is also weird: 1/2-2 ounces. That’s a much higher top end for any Medium Heavy G Loomis rod I know of.

Maybe counterfeit? Or very old/discontinued? Any knowledge on this model would be appreciated!

I’ve been using Loomis rods since 95 & I’ve never seen that designation ever. Perhaps an Email to Shimano/Loomis might help if no one here can identify it proper.

Yeah, definitely looks like a MH in a non bass line. I have a MH musky rod that is rated for multiple ounces on the top end. That loomis naming convention is also consistent with their other musky rods. I don't know if it is an earlier or later model than the ones in the link. These say "muskie: on them.

The guy who is selling it has very limited English speaking skills so not sure I’m gonna get any info out of him. But the musky rod guess sounds the likeliest explanation. And given the typical dinks I catch, it’s gonna be a hard pass for me.

The "MUR843C" refers to a specific model in the G. Loomis IMX-PRO series, a high-performance casting rod (the 'C' means Casting) that's 7'0" (the '84' indicates 84 inches) with a Medium Heavy power and Fast action, designed for bass fishing, featuring premium cork grips, Fuji reel seats, and K-frame guides, known for sensitivity and power in techniques like throwing jigs, worms, or spinnerbaits

@ATA If only AI actually knew what it was talking about all the time.

The rod is a GL2 musky rod as big box said. Saltwater guys use them for bottom bouncing. It would also be a pretty good NJ musky rod considering how many smaller fish we have around here.

Here is the 2014 catalog. Page 26 shows the musky rods and you can mostly make out the MUR nomenclature. The specific rod label in the picture is the GL2 styling. Also, in the original picture (on facebook marketplace) you can click on the picture to put it full screen and pinch zoom out to see the GL on the blank right below where Dave cut off the picture.

You left off the part of the marking that gets my attention.

Here's the marking on my pre-Shimano GL2
