What would you use this rod for? Fenwick Eagle

The local farm store has a Fenwick rod on clearance for 80 dollars.. Its a Fenwick Eagle , 7'1" medium power, extra fast acton. Lure 1-8th to 3-8th. Line 10 to 14 lb test. Its kind of an odd rod "at least the specs are" and dont know where it would fit in.

I've been lookingfor a rod to precisely throw 1/4 oz squarebills , this might be the sweet spot with this rod.

I assume you're talking about the casting version. I would take a wild guess that they took their 7'1" spinning blank and built it with casting components. The 1/8-3/8 spec is indicative of a L spinning rod, but they have put M on the label which implies a bit of butt to it. That's not unheard of in a spinning rod- really light tip, extra fast action, transitioning into power lower down. If that's all true, it could just be what you want- something to throw a true 1/4 oz or so reasonably well. You'll need to have a reel that can handle it and the appropriate line (I'd be looking at 10 lb supernatural or similar). But I'd want to put hands on the rod before I bought it to check all that out.

Yeah, I failed to mention that.

Since they are local to you you might take a reel and a casting plug, go there and get them to let you try it out on the parking lot. I used to do that at Bass Pro. I would leave my driver’s license with them and my truck keys.

Finesse jigs and shakey heads.

Thats about what I was thinking. Unless they mark it down further I'm going to pass.I dont need another rod for bottom bouncing lures.

I think it depends how that tip loads. A true medium extra fast would probably be good for light jigs, shakey heads, even jerkbaits/topwaters. But I have a feeling it probably won't load great for casting small cranks. But who knows, rod ratings are a joke sometimes.

Nah, I dont think its what I want. I dont want to order a rod so i'll just keep looking. For the time being I have a 6'6" med and 6'6" med light rods both fast action to use for light cranks. If they mark it down more I may get it.

I actually don't like extra fast action rods for the most part...unless it's a st croix 6'10 extra fast action which if you actually bend it and compare it has an action that's virtually identical to a previous gen 6'7 adrena. Aside from that the others I've tried have felt like something I could play pool with and the fastest rod I've got is a glx mbr which is fast enough for me (other than the frog and flipping / punching setup which is sort of in a different league anyway).

Agree with holding out if it isn't urgent the best deals I've found seem to have come when I wasn't necessarily looking for anything.
