Megabass P5 Monstrous vs Mark 56

Featured Replies

I've got the Mark 56.

It's my swimbait rod. I only throw baits in the 1-3 oz range.

Works great.

I put a Curado 200 on it but I wish I had something with a little more line capacity as you can chuck those baits a loooooong way.

@FishTank you probably know, but GeoffreytheKing's pd chopper video from last april is all P5 Monstrous if you want to see it in action.

Ya, I watched a couple of videos with him using the rods I am looking at. It looks like they are about the same but the Monstrous is slightly faster. I am looking to throw same PD Chopper with a 5in Spark Shad, small glides, Magdrafts and big top water. I have a 7'4'' Heavy Megabass Valkyrie and it can cast a lot of the same stuff but it's kind of soft and anything above 2oz is a little off with this rod. It's great with a 6in Magdraft and an A-rig.

I did hear Geoffrey say that you can bend hooks out on big baits with the Monstrous. Personally I have never bent out a hook that was bigger than a #2. I've got some time before I am going to pull the trigger. Going to keep thinking on it and see what everyone else has to say.

I have the mark 56 and it’s a special rod for treble hook baits in that 1-3oz range. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one. It’s the absolute perfect tiny Klash rod. I also throw other glides on it up to 3oz like the kgb Chad shad. I think it should be fine to fish the pd chopper (I picked up some too over the winter) with an exposed hook. You may want the beefier monstrous if you’re going to fish the trailer weedless.

No experience with the monstrous but the mark 56 is a no brainer you will not regret it for that 1-3oz hardbait range.
