Has anyone extended a deck o

Featured Replies

I have a Bass pro 175 tracker which I love. But my rods stick out past the deck. I thought that I saw an upgrade of a deck on a video once that was extended to keep his poles from breaking. Has anyone know of an extension of the deck or part of the deck to make the rods from being broken??? Yep that’s right I broke another rod. Thanks for your input

Stick out past the deck? Can you post a photo?

@gim yes I can, I’ll post after work tomorrow . The rods are 7’6” and 7 foot rods.

I had a Lowe 180 and wanted a bigger deck so I planned what I wanted and drew a picture of it. I took that to an aluminum shop and had them make me one folding the back edge down 1” for strength. I carpeted it to match the boat then bolted it to the deck and rod locker.

If your objective is to just lengthen it on the port side there are lots of possibilities. You could just have an extension where the rods lay.

@Jig Man that is exactly what I was thinking. I’ll have pictures tomorrow with how the rods hang over the edge

@Jig Man do you have any pics?

Sorry that was 3 boats ago.

Are you stepping on them? This will get them off the deck and past the gunwhale so you can't possibly step on them.

Or are you saying that the tips of the rods are over the gunwhale at the bow and you're hitting them on things outside the boat? I store my rods on deck completely inside the gunwhale with the handles pointed toward the bow with tips pointing toward the stern. I have a double console RT188 so the rod tips all touch each other inside the boat between each console and gunwhale. I can put 8 rods on deck (4 each side) and none of them will be outside the gunwhale and I have plenty of room to move. The only thing I have to becareful with his placement of the handles in the landing zone for my TM support when I stow it, but there is a permanent dimple in the carpet and now it's second nature to me to keep a rod handle off that dimple.

I apologize if this is off track. I'm having trouble picturing what you are asking about.

I’m looking forward to seeing just how you want the extension to fit.

I have a RT178 single console. My setup, at least on the console side, is the same as yours. I only put rod and reels on that side with the handles towards the front, and the tips are tucked inside the gunnel.

IMG_0850.jpegOk, this is how far the rods stick out. As I was thinking about this I was thinking about using a piece of plexiglass at the end to keep my rods from breaking. What do ya’ll think about this? Again thanks for the input.

@Justbass11 take another photo zoomed out, if you will.

It is worth trying. Let us know how it goes.

I think I understand now. Your rods are hanging over where your passenger console would be if you had one? @gim and I push our rod tips together in the direction of the red arrow so that they sit on that little shelf just inside the gunwhale (blue arrow). But I see your idea of putting in an extension so the tips have more surface to lay on. I don't think using polycarbonate is a bad idea. It's strong, but will you see it or remember it's there and not run into the corner of it with your leg? It would be lighter than metal and more impervious to weather than wood.
