Rapala Claptail issue

Featured Replies

Got a Rapala 110 claptail the other day and I can't get it to run right at all. Medium Moderate rod, 10:1 retrieve Abu Red Rocket( but I adjust speed as needed) 30 pound Seaguars smackdown braid. No matter how fast or slow I fish it, the stupid thing just rolls over, and over, and over, Speed it up it rolls more slow it down, the tail stops plopping. I can't figure out why it's doing that. I fish a plopper and choppo all the time no issues.

I'll give that a try and see what happens.

Something is keeping the plopper from spinning freely. Look for a nick in the shaft, a slight bend in the shaft, the bead used for a bearing may have be damaged and not turning, or maybe the plopper blade is rubbing on the body of the lure. Blow on it to see if it turns easily. There also may have been some dirt or weeds causing the plopper to not turn easily. Take a good look at the whole tail section with a magnifying glass making sure nothing is nicked or damaged. Clean it well, and put a drop of vegetable oil on the shaft, then give it another try.

never heard or thought of using a bit of wesson on it. Thanks I'll try that as well.

I got one a few weeks back when DSG had them on sale. It wouldn't run right for me either. Seems like the blade was interferring with the prop. So I cut the blade off and it runs fine now, exactly like a whopper plopper.
