Walleye fishing on BFS gear is great

Featured Replies

No, but I use Light or Ultra Light spinning...so same thing-ish...

And yes, loads of fun!

We also have HUGE Freshwater Drum and huge SMB...and you're likely to catch either while fishing for walleye...

I use casting gear - down to BFS - for everything I used to use spinning rods for.

It's better in every way I can think of.

It’s not better necessarily, but more enjoyable to some for easy reasons. Most people use one thing forever, so something new suddenly becomes amazing. I never used any casting tackle until I got into bass fishing and found it fun. I also still get down with my spinning rigs just the same. Don’t buy into “better” any further than face value. I have a bfs setup and after catching fishing with it…it’s just other combo in the lineup.

Casting gear is more accurate, casts as far, and it's easier to stay in contact with the line during a retrieve than on a spinning rod.

Just got back from Lake St Clair where we normally spend 1 day jigging for walleye so we have filets to bring home but this year we concentrated on big smallmouth. We normally get a by catch of walleye throwing flat sided cranks and tubes in smallmouth areas. This year I caught some on a dropshot which was a first. Light spinning on 8lb test.
