Which Travel Rod???

Featured Replies

Headed to Ontario in a couple of weeks for a black bear hunt but we will be doing a lot of fishing in the mornings. I believe the lakes we're fishing have mostly walleye & pike. I think the smallmouth are more south of where we are going to be which is a bummer.

Anyways, I'm most likely going to be targeting walleye as pike don't interest me much. I'm bringing my Phenix Feather ML 2 piece rod but am looking to add another casting travel rod to the mix.

Currently looking at the Dobyns Kaden 713C 3 piece... Are there other rods that I should be looking at? The Kaden is as much as I want to spend so around $200 and below is my budget right now.

These rods are incredible, especially for the price. I feel like they are on par with exprides in terms of quality and sensitivity. The 6'9M/F is just a little extra special, really love that rod and can't recommend it enough.

I’d look at a couple demo rods in the tackle traps used section.

As far as brands/models/action I’m not much help. Never owned a travel rod but if I did it would be a Megabass.

I’ve bought hundreds of things from Japan, but never a rod. I’m too chicken to risk what domestic shippers have done more than once.

I have a couple of Fenwick Methods for sale if you’re interested.

Shoot me a message on what you’ve got and price. Thanks

I have quite a few travel rods. The Megabass Triza rods are my favorite. I have a Diawa Black Label 5 piece medium casting rod. I bought it as a do it all rod I could take on flights. If that interests you, I’ll make you a good deal on that one.

I have the Kaden 714C Travel rod and I love it. I actually use it as a normal everyday rod as well. Put some Burts Bees chapstick (beeswax) on the male ends of the Ferrule connections and they wont get stuck together. The travel case is well put together and sturdy. I took mine up to Lake Minnewanka in Banff last year.

Thanks for the tip! I just ordered the Kaden 713C since the majority of the fishing will be walleye.
