Evergreen Combat Stick

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Has anyone used one of these rods before? I see sheels has them at $100 off, and some guy on Facebook has one listed for $80 in the 7’3 mh mf. Found it a little weird that the models weren’t really explained on the website or given an action. I have been looking for a longer mh mf rod so this could be a good deal for me.

Thanks,

Bryce

I do not have a Combat Stick but have been following its historical journey since it was first introduced.

Mostly because I'm hoping the original becomes available, but right now it's all but impossible to find.

Besides the above, there have been at least two other versions of this vaulted blank

on the market.

They have been received with mixed reviews. - Like everything, I guess.

Either way, when a vendor makes virtually ZERO mention regarding the blank material on a stick where the blank IS THE WHOLE show - I'd recommend avoiding it, regardless of price.

I would consider this one below a viable option.

But what Scheels is currently selling seems like something else.

I've owned and fished 5 of them

The 73Hmf is verrrrrrrry similar to a Megabass Perfect Pitch. Blindfolded I'd struggle to tell apart

71MHf spinning is a great tube/finesse football rod

The Gizmo spinning model has a super soft tip great for strolling & bug baits

78HF is a really nice smaller swimbait rod

The 72MHmf is a unicorn... called the moving bait/shower blows model. Fantastic spook rod, great big jerkbait and single hook soft swimbait/spinnerbai/buzzbait rod. Doable 15ft cranks and chatterbaits. In a pinch you can flip a senko and have plenty of sensitivity. I bought a backup of it just in case, I never ever do that.

If the 7'2" was in stock for this sale I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I've been told by many it's an excellent spinnerbait rod and my current favorite (OG Tatula 7'2" MHR) is no longer made.

It is a sliiiightly more progressive taper than the Tatula (looooved that rod). The Tatula you could feel where it shut off the CS doesn't have that feeling

I have 6 evergreen combat sticks (1st gen) and they’re great.

The sleepers in the line up are the 7’1 Medium x-Fast casting, 7’2 MH Mod/Fast and 7’3 H Mod/fast (I agree it’s very comparable to the perfect pitch and I prefer it over the perfect pitch). And I have the bladed jig rod which is just awesome.

I have the 6’8 H glass rod in the newest gen and it’s a great skipping/tight area rod for moving baits and it’s great.

All the others models I have do as they’re intended to do.

thanks for the information. I still feel like the models kind of need explanation. The website hardly has any info. What is the difference between the 7’2 and 7’3 mh mf?

100% agree on the MHMF. It’s amazing for moving baits and just has the it factor.

After checking the website scheels does not have this model in stock. I can’t speak to any of the others.

This will sound goofy... the 72 is more moderate than fast. The 73 is more fast than moderate. It's a jig rod

The 77 at scheels is a longer version of the shower blows rod (thats a big topwater rod...)

The 710 is a flipping stick

71 is a smaller jig/senko rod

Thanks. The 7’2 is what I would want them, but not in stock. At least I learned something. A guy on Facebook does have the 7’3 mh for $100 so I may still try that.

Pretty sure Daiwa built them for evergreen. I have a super combat and it's a really nice rod. I guess I'd peg them as JDM-quality Daiwas.

I almost pulled the trigger on a couple of the combat sticks at schools but then I realized I ... have enough rods.

This is blasphemy and I don't think we should tolerate such thinking.
