Problem casting braided line

Featured Replies

Ive been having some problem casting braided line, Ive got it spooled on a abu garcia ambassuder baitcaster. I try and cast and it either casts only a few feet or backlashes on me dunno what Im doing or have wrong.

What kind of line?  Fireline?  I have Fireline on an Abu Garcia 5600 C3 and hated it.  It would embed iteself on the spool and backlash constantly.  I had to crank the tension on the spool an duse a lot of thumb pressure early in the cast just to control it.  I will be trying PowerPro next.

Did you tape to the spool or add on to mono. Braid likes to be tight on the spool if it's laying lose pull it off and apply pressure and respool.

Another issue may be the weight of the bait you are trying to cast.  You may need a little heavier bait for your setup.

Spider wire stealth, and no its not taped or tied to mono (maybe thats my prob)

Not having tape, or mono backing, should not cause casting problems. It will cause the line to slip on the spool, acting like you have little or no drag. Your most likely problem is the line digging into itself, which is a major problem with the smaller line test sizes of braid. If you're using less than 30, this could be it.

I guess thats possible  too ,  Ive  got 20 on it. Think tonight I will  rerig the rod put on some mono and  tie the braid  to it.

You def need to tie mono or tape it what could be happening is your line is sliding around your spool BEFORE it has enough momentum to turn it then all of a sudden it does BUT its to late and its 10 foot in front of ya then you reeling it back with thet loose spool of line each time is making it 10 times worse each time
