Which of Two Poles

Featured Replies

I am looking to purchase a 6' 6" Shimano "Convergence" baitcasting pole.  I want to use it for crankbaits, rattle traps, etc.  Should I get the Medium Power Fast Action or the Medium/Heavy Power Fast Action?

Thanks!

Out of those two, I'd get the med power.  Unless you are fishing real big crankbaits, the Med. should be plenty of power.

If you are really going to use it as a crankbait rod, why not look into buying a crankbait rod?  (that would be a moderate or a mod-fast)  It would be a more forgiving rod with treble hook lures and would cast lighter crankbaits easier than a fast action rod.

My situation is that I do not want to own a bunch of different rods.  I have an Abu Garcia 5600 C3 (5.3:1) and a 4600 C4 (6.3:1) baitcaster.  I have a 6'6" Med/Heavy rod that has a pretty moderate action.  I want to purchase one more rod to cover all of the bases.

So, I guess I need to see what reel should go with what rod and then think about which rod will be best for crankbaits, or plastics, or jigs, etc.

(I do have a 6'6" Med/Heavy spinning setup for topwater and jerk baits.)

All suggestions are welcome!!

Since you already have a moderate action rod, I'd use that one for cranking, and get a fast action rod for plastics and jigs. Use the slower reel for crankin and the faster reel for your plastics rod. With your spinning rig, those three setups will cover a lot of bases. Cheers,
