Actual line strength of P-line Cx?

Featured Replies

Anyone know how strong 15lb P-line CX really is? Or know how i can figure it out myself? Any idea how far over the rating the other lb test Cx are? Just curious. To me it seem the 15 is way more managable than the 17 and 20lb.

I know i should use cajun redline or Yo-zuri hybrid ultra soft if i want to catch fish ::):o

but honestly i dont like either...

I think it's 40% stronger than stated, #15 = 21 lb test.

(Yo-Zuri #12 = 19.5 lb test)

thanks. cant beat that. I knew it rated over but that it unreal for the diameter, handling and lack of stretch. ::o

I wish but P-Line doesn't offer CX in 17 lbs :o

They may have made it in the past....I swear the marina/tackleshop where i do business has some on the shelf in the old black, silver boxes. It has been there two years at least, because it was there the summer i worked there 2 years ago.

CX as in CX Premium, or did you mean to say CXX?   The CX Premium overtests, but not as significantly as the CXX, but the CXX is also a lot thicker.  I will would like to correct myself; I once stated that Yozuri Hybrid was the thickest line per rated test than most any other line, but that just isn't so.  Yozuri is quite thick in the lower lb tests, but in the 10lb and up, it is very average.  Pline CXX is pretty thick stuff...the '10lb' is .014", which is little thicker than the Yozuri Hybrid 12lb, which is .013".  I imagine the CXX 10lb actually tests out at close to 20lbs.  I have no data on this; I've just fished the line for a long time.   I straighted a heavy gauge jig hook with the 10lb recently, and I can't break it with my hands at all.

Oops!   :o

I guess it's been awhile. P-Line used to be My Line, so I recall it being 40% stonger than its stated test.

That was probably #6 for spinning tackle and #17 for baitcasting. I don't think #15 was an option then either. Whatever the technically correct answer is, CXX is strong! I switched because of line memory, especially in cold weather.

You could absolutely be right...I honeslty don't know and was just guestimating.  CXX is definitely a stiffer line...I bet in your colder climate it would be worse.  I call it the 'no-nonsense' line...if it was a cigarette, it would be a Camel filterless.  If it was a drink, it would be black label Jack Daniels  ;D.  One of these days the technology will be there for an ultra-thin, ultra-limp copolymer with ridiculous abrasion resistant capabilities and stretch equivalent to braid.  We'll sit back an laugh at all the time we spent worrying about our line  :) (I definitely contemplate my line choice way too much  :o ).

I definitely contemplate my line choice way too much.

Nope, line impacts both getting the bite and landing the fish...line is probably the single most important part of fishing tackle. I too expect to have the "perfect" line one day soon. Until then, it's all about compromise and the aspects you feel are most suitable for the type of fishing you do.

I e-mailed P-Line & asked that question but they nevered answered me. On the box it does say It outperforms every major competitor by as much as 40% for the same # test. The reason I asked them was because I use high modulus thin wall custom rods (Shikari SHX blanks). I don't want to over power the rod so I am careful  on braking strength of the line I use.  I wanted to try P-Line's new Evolution so I bought 12# test to use on my 12 to 20 lb line weight rods. I have been using Yo-Zuri ultra soft & Gamma copolymer which are great lines. I think that the P-Line Evolution is crap. I have not had a fish break off in over 2 years, While using the evolution I have had 3 break off this spring. I have been fishing in the grass & lily pads, the abrasion resistance is terrible. Needless to say that crap is in the trash & I respooled those reels with the Yo-Zuri & Gamma line. In the past I did use P-line CXXX but switched for the same reason R/W did

P-Line CXx and CX-Premium are VERY different lines. I do have some of the ACTUAL breaking strengths for the Premium. One of the individuals there actually went in and broke the lines for me when I began pursuing line class records as Premium is almost always my line of choice. I don't know the breaking strength of the 15 lb but here is what I have:

2 Lb line breaks at 2.8 lbs

4 lb breaks at a high 5 lb

10 lb breaks at 13 lbs

12 lb breaks at 14.8 lbs

You still have to assume small variances in lines. For example, I wanted the 15 lb record so I needed to use 10 lb line instead of the 12 lb because its possible for 12 lbs variance to move from 14.8 to say, 15.3 and be too high, thus nulifying the record.

I think I have tried about all that P-Line has to offer and I have to agree with a previous post on the 12lb Evolution.  That stuff breaks easily.  I had a small kink the line and broke on the next cast.  I have tried it on 3 different reels, all with the same result.  I will be switching back to the Floroclear, which I have never had a problem with.

I have had the same issues with it.  :o

Ive used yozuri for the last 5 years probably, but this year i'm switching to Mustad Thor line.  Its a great abrasion resistant line like hybrid but has less memory. Check it out.
