New Spinning Reel

Featured Replies

Looking to buy a new spinning reel. Have had two shimano's over the years. The first one was a sahara i believe. It lasted for 7-8 years. The second one was a symetre. It lasted at least that long as well. Just wondering what you guys were throwing and what you would recommend. Looking to spend under $100.

if you want to stay under $100...i'd go with another Symetre.  Love mine.  For a little more you can upgrade to the Stradic.

Thanks NE BassMan. I also loved the Symetre. Just trying to find out if there was something good that I was missing. Anyone one ever use the Quantum Kinetic PTi-A?

As a die hard Daiwa guy.

The symetre is the best value in spinning reels bar none.

If there is an advantage of the stradic over the symetre it's a mystery to me.

Two the Pflueger Medalist but i would go with the President If you think price tag equals superiority then the 60 bucks for the PResident may not be for you If you want true value and a great reel try a President. Having used the Stradic for a bit now I see no benifit in going for the extra dough I still like the President best of all

I'm using shimano sahara 2500fb for a year now. It's a great reel , the only disadvantage is the drag which is not so strong and sometimes it's difficult to fight big fish. If symetre has better drag , then i'm not seen any reason upgrating in a more expensive reel.

I have two Symetre's. Great reel for the price, and I agree with Avid, it's the best value in the Shimano line of spinning reels. I also have a Catalyst PT. It's the best value in that line. I have two Energy PT spinning reels, and I think the Catalyst is a better value. Is the Catalyst 20 bucks better than the Symetre? I think so. I've not used a Kinetic, so I can't comment on that one.

Cheers,

GK

there is no reel under $100 that comes close to the symetre.

As a symetre wielder myself, I second this statement. :)

I have been very pleased with the Symetre as well. But my next spinning reel purchase will be the Pflueger Supreme. This is a very light reel and feedback I have received at BPS has been very positive. However this reel sells at 99.95............Al

My preference would be to spend a few extra dollars, $120 to be exact, and get the Stradic 2500FH.

However, the Symetre gets GREAT reviews from every Shimano fan and even some of the Daiwa guys.

For $79 that IS a great value!

I just got a symetre from G3 Fan (great seller and honest guy) and it seems like a great and smooth reel matched up with a 7 foot st.croix preimeire.
