A few months back, I received a marketing letter in the mail which attempted to convince me to buy one of these rods.  Some others on this forum received this letter also.  I was skeptical of the claims made in the letter, due to the price of the rod (very cheap) and due to the method used to market it.  If these rods are exceptional quality as the manufacturer claims, I would give a couple of free ones to Tackletour.com or some professional bass anglers and have them work these out for me.  If these are quality rods, the word of mouth from these sources would sell more rods than the letter that was sent out.  So I haven't tried the rods.  I hope my skepticism is ill-founded.

Bluebonnet2, let us know how these work out.

And Good Morning to you!

I am a skeptic so I checked that site out guess who a major sponsor of that site is

none other than ACADIA   DOOHHH!!!!!!!!!

As a fan of internet companies, I've been watching Acadia.

Back in my single days, after 100's of hours of research, I purchased a couple home theater systems and other components from internet companies - including a custom made 5.1 system. It was a pretty big leap of faith to make purchases that size without even hearing the products. I got some awesome equipment and have no regrets... Too bad the bait monkey didn't know me back then... ;D

Anyhow, by following Audio & Home Theater Forums, I found several companies that were internet based. I eventually had complete faith in them because they depended upon "word-of-mouth" for business. These young companies could not afford to tarnish their reputations. Through valuable discussions on forums, as well as supplying demo equipment to respected, independent reviewers, the owners of these audio companies developed a following. A key aspect of the discussions by these business owners was that they typically provided in-depth insight into their philosophies and a high degree of detail and facts about their products. USUALLY, these discussions by the (respected) owners would not tarnish the reputation of other manufacturers, but would point out differences in philosophy and construction.

So far, I don't think Acadia has been able to create any kind of buzz that peaks the interest of fishing fanatics. I'm not sure if that is because the owner is not an avid fisher and doesn't understand the typical enthusiast, or if he does not have experience marketing on the internet. Of course, it could be that the products don't warrant any attention either. :-?

I think it would be interesting to get some unbiased information about the products. While I wouldn't exect rods that sell 2 for $40 to satisfy an enthusiast, it would be nice to know that there is decent rod available for folks with a lower budget. On the otherhand, a Berkley Cherrywood or Lightning from Wally World is a known product that will suit a novice.

Thus, I'm interested in following the company's success (or not) as a business case.

Okay.

At that pricing point there are many other alternatives, but trying something new for $20 isn't exactly life threatening. Personally, any product that's being hyped by an "independent" reviewer that turns out to be sponsored by the manufacturer would be crossed off the list. Lyin', cheatin' and then gettin' caught! Not a very promising start in my view.

good evening,

picked up my rods this morning at the post office...nicely packaged......got home and i have an old utility reel with 12 lb. mono, so i put it on the 6' 6 mh with 3/8 practice plug. in about 10 casts, avg was approx 30 yds, so i rigged a wave worm(tiki 5") with a gamma 4/0 ewg(no weight) 10 cast..avg 25 yds...will try the 7' in the morning with a different reel and a jig....this is NOT a professional test!!

now the rods, fugi thru handle, bright blue(epoxy coated) fully wrapped guides, very good cork handle...

may not be a bad rod for the buck....will give 'em a good workout mon. or tues on caddo...

good catching,

bluebonnet2

I got the same letter, and was skeptical.  Since I had a trip coming up, wanted some new gear, I decided to give them a shot anyway.  The price was right, and worst case, I wasted 45 bucks.  I gave them a good real world workout  and was pleased.  I had a BIG Northernon that the rod handled great. Just wish i had the drag set loser because it shook the hook right before we got it in the net. Dohhh! I am used to Lightning Rods, Ugly Sticks, that type of rod.  These are as good if not better in my opinion.  It seems to truly be a mom and pop shop, I have emailed and talked to the president and customer service, and I think they are Husband and Wife.   There is a picture of one of my fish, a bass between 5 and 6 pounds on the website.

If your used to St. Croix quality, don't bother, but if your used to what I am and are not a full time fishermen, you should be pleased.  Two things that I didn't care for when I first received them, the plastic threads to tighten the reel in, and the lead warning sticker.   There are lead warning stickers on everything these days though, even lures, and the actual part that hold the reel is metal.  Just my opinion, I've been fishing my whole life, but am used to average quality rods.  I do think these feel better than what I'm used to, and I have had some pretty big fish on them already.  I will buy again if I can convince my wife I need more rods.
