Chronarch 51mg vs Curado 100DSV

Recommended Posts

I found these reels being sold locally, and I have researched them both but I need some opinions. Im not sure if im too keen on the fact that the 51MG has a small spool :-/ (think its like 14/90), do you think the line capacity is such a big deal? :-? Id like to know your opinions on what reel you would choose. I can get the chronarch paired with a St croix premier 6'6" MF for $225 canadian, and most likely less with the curado.

Thx again:P

I have the Curado 100 and like it very much.  Never tried the 51mg.  90 yds is plenty of line depending on your application though.

The 50Mg (51 is a left handed reel) is a superior reel in all respects except line capacity. I have 4 50Mgs and have never run out of line. LOL

i have 2mgs had a curado which also a great reel

i dont think the curado holds much more line then the mg maybe what 20 yards

that is a really good price for the mg and st croix and should make a pretty light combo

I have both... I prefer the MG over the Curado... it just seems a tidge smoother and noticably lighter... I would give 225 for a reel and a rod anyday! That is a good deal as long as they are in good shape!

I have a CH50MG and a CT50A Calcutta; I have only been spooled once by a 30 lb redfish with the CT50A Calcutta.

Ya , I guess if it comes down to I can spool with some braid to get more on the spool if needed. I was told the chronarch is brand new and has never been used, and the rod is in excellent condition. I think I might go with the chronarch, since I already have a Daiwa Procaster 6+1 on an avid AC68MXF. I was also thinking about putting the chronarch on the avid and the daiwa on the premier.

Or just get another spool for the MG (curado 100B is a direct swap)  I have 5 MG's and 4 of them have curado spools in them.  A deeper spool is a must when you use heavy lines like #17 or #20 XT.

I like the MG so much better that I think it's worth the cost, plus the extra $30 for another spool.  (I use the MG spools as spares with lighter mono or braid)

Thats a good idea, but where would I find a Curado spool without buying a curado?. I didnt think they sold spools seperatley, because I was asking around at different tackle shops if they sold extra symetre spools and they said they dont do that kind of thing.

Yes you can buy a spool assembly, you order it direct to Shimano.
