Picking new rod, help

Featured Replies

Looking for something to fish plastics, lighter jigs, spinner baits.

I'd like to keep it under 200 $

These two caught my eye

Dobyns Champion 68MHXF   683C

Kistler MgAPSMH69

___________ your suggestion here

Thank you

Hmm...

I just bought a St. Croix Legend Elite EC70MHF from Reed's for $204 delivered, but they are no longer on sale. You might consider the Avid AC68MXF.

I also recommend the Avid AC68MXF. I use it for plactics and lighter jigs. It has a soft tip for casting spinnerbaits, and plenty of backbone.

I should have put the st. croix in my first post.  I knew it was coming  ;)

I like the Quantum Tour Edition PTS704F. They go for around $160.

A few other ideas:

Check ReelMech's website and see what he has or just be patient and wait on some more customs he is working on.

Talk to him about building one for you.

Keep an eye on the "Flea Market".  Great deals come up all the time.

If you are a fan of St. Croix blanks, this is the way to go.  His rods are MUCH better value than factory and look pretty dang sharp also!  You can also buy them spiral wrapped.   ;)

edited for spelling

I have that exact Kistler, as well as 2 Dobyns rods (not the 683c, though).

If you didn't have 3 power Dobyns listed, I was going to suggest one.  These are great rods for the money, and far superior to my Kistler in performance, fishability, fit and finish.  And your desired applications are right in this rod's wheelhouse.

I think I will drop reelmech a line and see what he has going on.  I'll also see if I can find a shop that carries dobyns to see how they feel.

Thanks for the good ideas everyone.
