wat about a cabelas tournament ZX FS casting rod that has a 6:1 gear ratio and a 6'6" shimano convergence rod

and wat is the difference betwen a one peice rod and a two peice rod?

Andrew,

The fish you catch don't know if you're using a spinning rod or baitcaster.  It's going to take some time to learn to use the baitcaster. What I would recomend is that if you do get one, bring your spinning rod along with you when you go fishing.  Nothing ruins a day faster than a huge backlash that you have to cut out.

If you're getting a baitcasting setup, I would recomend staying with a one piece rod- which is self descriptive.  The two piece rods will tend to move where the 2 pieces of the rod connect.

2 piece rods are easier to travel with if you're stuck in cars or on bikes. They're usually cheaper as well because they really are not used by many avid anglers and likely don't have high end components.

I don't know anything about the rod/reel that you mention, but I learned the hard way that you get what you pay for with baitcasters.  I learned with a cheap Quantum, and it was frustrating.  I found out after using a friends baitcaster how bad mine really was.

i hate to contradict u but i dont own a single 1 piece rod. even my 6'6 is 2 pieces, and they all have quality components because they're built by quality companies. St.Criox, Fenwick, Templefork, Loomis, Sage. Like u said u get what u pay for, i payed for good 2 piece rods and i got just that.

Anyways, i've found abugarcia to be a dependable company.

I think you should save until February. Your not going to be fishing much between now and then anyways.  If you can, try to save all the money you can. Also ask your parents if they can pay for a little bit like 15 or 20%. I think for the reel should be a CI100DSV. http://www.deloscustomtackleshack.com/reels/shimanocitaca.html

It will last you for an extremely long time and it is a quality reel for a small price.

As for the rod I think you should look into a Shimano Clarus. It is a good rod and I would go with the 6'6 medium either EF or MF depending on what you thow.  If you use mostly lures go with the MF. If you use jigs and worms go w/ the EF.http://www.***.com/descpageRDCSHIMANO-SHCLCR.html

For line I recommend, 10lb Suffix Elite. It is abrasion resistant, castable, and is decently inexpensive.

Just do odd jobs and ask to make money around the house. I'm only 15 and even though I have a job I still try to make a little money around the house.

If this just seems impossible, send me PM. Ill try to find something a little cheaper. I know it is hard trying to get all of this money for something that seems overpriced but this will last you a very long time if you take care of it.

Right on

It used to be that way, not anymore.

Not true.

wanna get a baitcaster cuz i wanna get more serious about my fishing.

Andrew, seriousness lays in not only the attitude, how you use your tools and why not ? the quality of them, not in the kind of tackle you are fishing with.

Andrew , if you really want to get serous about bass fishing , you are going to have to learn the differant techniques.

You will find out that spinning gear will be as important as the bait casting gear.

I glanced through the Cabelas online catalog for 2 piece rods to figure out what people are using.

2 piece baitcasters are non existant for the most part.  I know that there is a Daiwa Ceilo that is a 2 piece, but only because it's over 7'6" and not telescopic.

For spinning rods, there are some, but not many.  Some avids, and a couple others that I don't remember.

-Only looked through rods that I would buy. Looking throug the avid, legend, falcon cara/lowrider, Daiwa L&T, Loomis GL2, IMX
