Featured Replies

I'm set to buy the Pflueger Supreme spinning reel. Is there a spinning reel that you'd buy instesd for $100?

Thanks

Yes, the older Shimano Stradic if you can find one on clearance.

I went to Gander Mountain today to look for a new spinning reel and the Supreme was one of them.  At first glance it is super light weight for a spinning reel and is as smooth as most other reels that are more expensive but I had two today that had the bail fail to go back into place properly. The sales guy also pointed out something I probably would have overlooked but the large drilled holes in the spool is a air magnet for dust and dirt. Many other reels have the same drilled holes but he actually had one behind the counter that was perfectly clean on the outside and full of dirt on the inside the spool and on the shaft.

If I was serious about buying a Pflueger, I would look at the President. It looks to be just as equal as the Supreme with exception of weight.

When I started to look for new spinning reels last spring, I had just about every brand, at one store or another, give me fits. When I finally decided on a Stradic, I took it home and found it to have bail issues right out of the box. I took it back and ended up getting a pair of Supremes from another store. Not long after that I picked up a third. I have not a problem with any of them.

While I have not put that many hours on 2 of the three, I have not found any dirt issues with the one I have put many hours on. Not saying it's not an issue, it might be for some, depending on the conditions they fish in, but I have not found it to be a problem. I do keep mine in cases for storage and transportation, so that might have something to do with it. If I were to take a guess, I would say it's a case of leaving the reels in an uncovered boat while traveling down dusty roads. Wasn't my reel, so I can only guess.

the stradic is the reel that gave the shimbindo name.when they get  wet some of them bind and shimbindo refused to fix them.the answer would be no to your question.

I'd recommend the Pflueger Supreme. The President is also a nice reel, but the Supreme is much nicer for only around $20 more. IMO:o)

Id say the Daiwa capricorn is nice if you can find one for under a 100.

I have a Supreme and would reccomend it over every other spnning reel that I have tried. It is light, fast, and has the smoothest drag that I have ever seen on a spinning reel.

Not that I have found.  I have 3 Supremes and they all perform flawlessly.  With careful shopping they can be had for $85 or less.

No sah, that's a negative IMO.
