Rod for jerkbaits

Featured Replies

I am looking for a new rod to use for throwing jerkbaits, mostly Rogues (3/8 - 1/2 oz) and LC Pointer 100 (5/8 oz).  I am looking at the Shimano Compre Crankbait rods.  These seem like they would be really nice rods for throwing jerkbaits, as well as shallow - medium cranks.  I'm looking at the 6' 6" Medium Power/Med. Fast action, but also considering the 7' 0" also.

For about $90 these seem like really nice rods for the purpose.  Anyone else using these rods for jerkbaits/cranks that want to share your opinion?

If I had to pick my favorite rod for jerkbaits, I would go with the G. Loomis MBR844C IMX.  This rod can do just about anything. B)

I just got a St.Croix Premier crankbait rod for $100 shipped to my door. Great crank / jerkbait rod. I dont' throw cranks, I got it pretty much just for jerkbaits.

I got the 6'6 Medium, and I love the 6'6, all my other rods are 7's, but it's so much easier to jerk the rod with a 6'6. I wish I had got the Medium heavy though so I could have a bit more backbone to throw some spinnerbaits and such.

The new ASR series by All Star has an amazing rod for jerkbaits, it is the ASR815C. I have one and it is perfect for jerkbaits, and anything else with treble hooks for that matter.

www.all-americanoutdoors.com had them for just 90 bucks

To answer you question specifically, I have a buddy who has the 7'0" Shimano Compre Crankbait rod and uses if for jerkbaits. I assume he is pleased with it, because he hasn't said he wasn't.

I use a G Loomis Bronzeback 6'9" Crankbait Rod (SMR814C-CB) and I couldn't imagine a better jerkbait rod. It is the perfect length and has just the right action (enough moderate action to help keep the fish hooked up with those trebles during the fight, but fast enough to work the bait effectively and can handle those 1 oz. LC Pointer 128 jerkbaits). Whoever designed this rod knew what he was doing (or maybe he didn't, since it is classified as a crankbait rod and not a jerkbait rod)

I have been told Shimano rods are great quallity and have been recommended them. I was actually looking to purchjase that same rod except I think I am going to go with a BPS Crankin' Stick because they are on sale for 26.50 on the BPS web site. Check them out. Even if you don;t like it its only $26 and you could probably sell it to some one or have it as a back up.

I'd recommend the Bass Pro Crankin stick as well too. For 26.50 on sale, you won't find a better deal anywhere right now. I'd get the 7'0 medium or even the medium light if you have crankbaits/jerkbaits that are all lighter than 1/2 oz

I'd also recommend the Shimano Clarus over the Compre because its a medium action compared to a medium fast action I believe. The Compre is a great rod for 89.99 but the Clarus for jerkbaits is a sweeter rod as well for only $59.99

St Croix premier glass crankbait rod is my choice.  It comes in 6 1/2 and 7 foot with a medium power and a mod fast action.

id opt for the st criox legened tourney bass ( jerkbait stick ) .... i believe its 6ft6 med fast .... this is the rod ill be using this season

For jerkbaits I prefer shorter rods 6.0 M since I want to keep the tip down all the time, I also like it with a bit of stiff tip, St Croix makes the closer to the  ideal one.

I fish a St. Croix Avid AC66MF which has a soft tip. You might find this rod on closeout for as little as $65.

I was just looking for this type of rod and came across the BPS crankin stick.  I got three because of the price, but I see they have raised it to $34.88.

I really like this rod for jerkbaits.

I don't mean to hijack the thread here, but I noticed roadwarrior and The Jake mentioned the AC66MF.  Does anyone know if the LTBC66MF has the same soft tip as the Avid?

-Thanks,

Shaun
