Help with worm rod

Featured Replies

Hi, forum newbe here,

I'm thinking about a G-Loomis Mossyback rod for worming, I'm looking for a sensitive rod that will cast well with lighter weights and braided line. Anyone have any experience with this rod or any better ideas. I did fish with a buddies St Croix and found it to be very stiff feeling on the cast. Thanks for any input.

G. Loomis MBR844C IMX = AWESOME worming/jig rod. You can feel the bite just before it happens. JMHO

If you go with the Mossyback, check out the BCR802 and 852.  Both are rated from 1/8-3/8oz.

If you stay with the braid, the Mossyback might be your best bet over the GLX in the jig-n-worm series.  A lot of people don't care for the noise that braid makes with the recoil guides of the GLX rods.

I've been contemplating a Mossyback 802 myself.  I want to pair it with a Pixy or CH51MG for tossing leadheads to walleye.

Go with Loomis but buy the IMX.  Preferably the GLX if you can afford it.

I have a BCR852GLX and a BCR803 Mossyback that I use for worming. I would recommend the 803 for light to medium worming and braid. I use fluoro mainly, but have used braid in the past on this rod.

The guy just said he fished a st. croix and it felt stiff- now you are recomending an 844C that thing is a Heavy acion rod- 21oz pool que.

I would recomend the BSR852 in either mossyback or GLX whatever is in his price range-

Powell 703 C!

Sweet stick for only $169.

It's my go-to worm and jig rod for the lighter stuff.

Dobyns 683c or 703c.  I have a 683c with a Curado 101D w/ 20 lb Sufix braid....

It's sweet...

I use the GLX BCR854C for t-rigs and I love it.  I would recommend the Mossyback equivalent if you are going to use braid.  I also have the MBR844C IMX, which I use for pitching and have it matched with braid and the MBR843C IMX, which I use for tubes and flukes and have it matched with hybrid.  The MBR844C is a little stiffer then the BCR854C, but is good for heavy cover.  If you are going to fish heavy cover, then the MBR844C may not be a bad option.  If not, the the MBR854C (or even the MBR853C) would be a good choice.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm going to BPS next week and I think it's going to be the BCR803. Thanks again for all the posts. This is an awsome site with a lot of great members that know how to show respect to others.
