I've search the forums for "SOL" and read the resulting posts. I've also search the Diawa and bps sites and do not find how to buy spare spools. Can someone suggest a source?

Check your reel schematics and look for the part number of the spool assembly, contact Daiwa to order the spool or...... you can purchase an aftermarket I 'ZE spool for Daiwa Alphas from a japanese source like Plat or a domestic source like Brooklyn Bills Tackle Shop. It 's the exact same spool ( no compatibility issues ) with a different bearing and a different color scheme:

there are some on japan tackle .com ..... they run 60 bucks ,,, but i believe they are a better spool then the stock one you get with your sol .... check it out ,,,, look down the page you will seee a section named tuning parts you will find it there ....
