looking for a reel

Featured Replies

Im in the market for a spinning reel for around 80$ any suggestions ill be doing mostly soft plastics and jigs up to 3/8 ounce

First pick

Shimano Symtre 2500 - $79.99

Second Pick

Shimano Sahara 2500- $59.99

These are the only two that I really have fished with alot. I am sure there are others that will serve you well. I have used both of these reels in the 4000 series for inshore saltwater. They took a beating and never failed.

I can't speak to durability, but last year I used both a Daiwa Exceler and Stradic in 2500 sizes.  Functionnally and enjoyment wise, I found them to be about the same.

The Stradic may have felt a bit more solid.

The Exceler had the bail trip on the cast a few times.  But, I subjectively feel that I got slightly more distance out of the Exceler.

I got my father-in-law an Symetry last year.  Sweet reel for the $$.

If you can find it, some stores will have the Shimano Stradic 2500 (old style) on sale for around $75-$100.  If not the Symetre would make for a great reel.  One other suggestion would be the Pflueger President.

I'm an Abu guy, but until I use their new Cardinals... Symetre. ::)

+1 for the Pflueger President (and you might even be able to find a Supreme for $80 with a little searching around:o)

If you end up wanting a President 6735 than let me know. I may be unloading mine cheap.

PM me if you want to go that route.
