Featured Replies

I am sure this has been covered but i can not find it in past post. I would like to know what knots to use and when.   Pictures and or very good directions would be helpful, Thanks.

Terminal tackle:

Palomer Knot, Trilene, Uni, San Diego Jam, Improved Clinch, Rapala Knot

Line-to-line: Blood Knot

Line to spool: Arbor Knot

back to back uni knots for line to line connections

arbor knot for line to spool connection

SD jam knot or uni knot for multi-hook baits

Palomar for everything else

The only time I used a clinch not is when fly fishing and I'm trying to save my tippet. I can tie a clinch knot with less line than any other knot.

I have a book that says not to use a Palomar on less than 20Lb test line. Anybody else heard of that?

No.

It's the knot I have been using most often for a decade or more, and I never have a rod spooled with 20 lb test line!

I've never heard of that but if it were true, many of us would probably lost a lot of bass by now. I hope it isn't true but I will continue to use the Palomar until otherwise. This knot has never failed me.

Anytime speedbead. Being a visual lerner, I can at times find it difficult to learn to tie knots from books too.

Anyone ever use the centauri knot? I have used it for years and have never had a problem with it much easier to tie than anything else i have seen.

Thanks guys for the info. I have one problem though...Is the hook backwards in the first step? I have noticed that in the demo's the line direction and hook direction seem to be...how to put this...confusing. It looks like the hook is in the wrong direction.  I think they start the line through the wrong side of the eye of the hook. Let me know if i am crazy on not. thanks.
