I need a spinning reel that I can cast 200 lb test braided line easily and can make long casts with a 3 ounce weight. This reel needs to have strong enough gears and a smooth drag to hold up to a 500 lb alligator.

I cannot be real big either if it will hold close to 200 yards of line would be great . I need to have it somewhat balanced on an 8 ft heavy action rod.

Any suggestions would be helpful

Well I am trying to be serious . Its my job to catch them. I just have been going through reels and need to invest in one thats castable but has strong gears and if possible a high gear ratio

If you are serious, the Stradic 6000's are on clearance at my local Cabelas for $110.  Normally close to $200.  Holds 165yds of 12lb mono, or the same amount of 40lb braid.  

That is asking quite a bit of a spinning reel.

I was thinking a shark rod or maybe a gun!  ;-)

I am unsure of the year of the reel but its strong geared .  I tightened the drag too tight on an 8 footer and the mount on the reel snapped. I wish I could fix that mounting part of that old reel. But I need a new strong one

I heard Penns are good I never have tried one

my buddies and i do the same thing in gator season. i have a PENN spinning reel thats works good. dont know the exact model but its a biggun. here's a pic of our gator -10'2''

I might check them out this braid is Tuff Line 200 lb test . I beleive the diameter is same as 50 lb mono. I need atleast 200 lb test if they roll in the line they can cut 200 lb test with their scutes sometimes

These reels have landed big marlins and huge tunas, it will pull the aligators like nothing! You will need a popping rod rated to 250g!

A cheaper reel up to the standard is the okuma vs 80 or the penn 750ss!

What about a Penn Senator Level Wide, Maybe 4/0 or 6/0.

Just a suggestion. For alot more money you could try a Penn International Torque. It has level drag as well. I am not sure how they cast. But it might be worth a shot. For a spinning reel maybe a Penn 8500 or 9500. These reels hold a ton of line and you can find them on Ebay reasonably priced. Just another thought.

I beleive that the Penn spinning reels that I linked to sell for around $150 new, the Torgues are real pricey. I see alot of Penns on ebay. Another option that I just thought of, is a Daiwa Black Gold. They sell for aound $99 dollars brand new.

You can buy a Penn or any other reel for that matter and pay less.  You'll probably end yup replacing it several times.
