New Baitcaster

Featured Replies

I am looking to learn how to use a baitcaster.  Would it be beneficial to buy one that has dual brakes?  What would be your recommendations around 150 to 175.

These are reels I have, and have used, and would recomend:

Abu Garcia Revo S $99

Quantum Accurist PT $129 ($30 rebate going on now)

Abu Garcia 5501C3 $80

Team Daiwa Advantage $99 (discontinued so you might find one cheaper)

These reel's are new to me and will be used this spring for the first time, but were bought on high recomendations here:

Shimano Citica 201D $119 ($30 rebate going on now)

Shimano Curado 101D $199 ($50 rebate)

I don't know anything about dual brake systems , but the Mag Force Z, and 6 pin brake system on the Revo work very very good. I assume the 6 pin system works very well on the Shimanos too. I actually like Quantums ACSII the best, very reliable and easy to adjust.

I'm gonna get the Rick Clunn signature rod and reel combo from Bass Pro its about $150. I've heard nothing but good things about this set up.

I bought the Rick Clunn baitcaster reel last year and have not had a chance to use it.  I have an undying loyalty to the "BAIT MONKEY"

I'd get a SHIMANO CITICA! Awesome reels and you'll still have some $$$$$ left over!!! They have a $30 rebate going on right now.... You should find one for around $100...............

Easy decision: Shimano Curado 100, Hands down.
