all purpose spinning rod

Featured Replies

Can 1 rod cover all of my spinning needs? I am looking for a rod that i can use for shaky head rigs, weightless baits, tubes and maybe even small jigs. If so what power and action would be best?

What price range?

The Woo Daves Extreme Series from Bass Pro in Med would be my choice. They also happen to be on sale for pretty dang cheap. If I could only use one rod, it would be the M action. It has a pretty decent backbone for tubes and jigs. I have 5 of them.....

6'6" or 7 ft.   med / fast

Fenwick HMG (120 bucks) and Fenwick HMX (80 bucks)

BPS Extreme on sale now for 60 bucks

Cabelas Fish Eagle II  80 bucks

Team Daiwa Light and Tough - $120

Very sensitive - Very attractive - Great backbone - Incredible latitude

(True casting range: 1/8 to 1 oz - Finesse fishing to Stump-rocking)

If you know of any blank with greater latitude (regardless of price) I'd be happy to hear about it.

Hey Rolo What is Latitude, when talking about a rod? How does this rod compare to an HMG?

Muddy,

'Latitude' just refers to the "lure weight" range and "line weight" range that a given blank can handle.

You'll notice that some of the most expensive high-modulus rods actually suffer from narrow latitude.

Whenever someone is looking for an "all-purpose" blank, they're actually looking for maximum latitude.

I own a couple HMGs (ultra-light) and there great blanks, but Fenwick makes many models.

To evaluate the latitude of any rod I normally compare the casting weight range to the L&T benchmark: 1/8oz to 1oz

Roger

Thanks Rolo I din't have a clue.

I would agree with the others who said a 6'6" or 7' Medium Power Fast Action rod. That is my main spinning set up and the rod I take when I go wading and can only take one rod because it can throw the most types of baits.
