Are the japanese rods(say megabass for an example) hand built one rod at a time ?

Yep, just like loomis, st. croix, all star and all the other rod brands out there...  there isn't a machine that assembles a rod (yet?).  

Whether or not they are individually spined, built without spacing charts, have hand fitted components, etc., etc. is another question altogether. (but it's what you are really asking, I think)  I suspect not, based on widespread availability, but I honestly can't say for sure.

Widespread availibility? Really? It seems to me that they are a pretty hard rod to get a hold of. I have never seen a Megabass or Evergreen rod in person.

What Flechero means with widespread availabilty is that Megabass rods aren 't really THAT hard to find, it 's more a question about you shelling out the big bux for one. Megabassusa usually has a good assortment of rods ( most propular models ), and if that don 't work then Plat does.

Other brands like Evergreen ( Temujin series ), Gan Craft, JDM Fenwicks, JDM AbuGarcia, BaitBreath ( Evola rods ) are a lot harder to find and some are only built on special order.

I have never owned a Megabass rod. I have looked at plenty and like the idea of specific applications for each rod, however.......one guy fished with me at Comedero this year and broke a Megabass rod reeling in his lure. Warranty? Not! I will not spend that kind of money on a rod without the warranties that are available on some other very nice rods. I own St Croix Legends, Kistler Heliums, Fenwick Elite Techs and I don't worry about these rods because of the warranties. There are probably many, many Megabass rod lovers on here, and that's great, but I don't think I will be one of them anytime soon.

Did you pick up the Destroyer series? In a recent brain cramp, I was looking at their 5'10 jig rod. Yes, 5'10. I thought that  rod would be perfect for extremely tight qtrs with a stiff backbone. I am still processing whether to pick that rod up. Any ideas? I hardly ever buy anything under 7', and just picked up a 7'3 and 7'6 Fenwick  Elite with heavy fast action. I like the muscle.

I bought the 6'9" Mephisto.  This rod is amazing.

They might be the finest bass fishing rods out there, but in my opinion the warranty is half the rod itself...

I don't mind spending big bucks on good gear...but not everyone can continue spending that much in the event something happens to it.
