New to the forum, hope you can help me out....

I'm thinking of fitting wiffle spools to some of my Ambassadeur reels:

4601C3, 5601JB, & 6601C4.

Any recommendations as to which spools I could use, I know there's the 5600WS, but are the Record spools compatible?

Also, is there any choice of colours?

PS These are just the reels I'll be using for closer range/lighter lures, I'll still have others with full capacity spools

The only differences between the C3, C4, C5 are bearing counts (colors and other "bling" notwithstanding).  

C3 as three bearings - two in spool, and an anti-reverse.

C4 has four bearings - same as C3 + one in level wind.

C5 has five bearings - same as C3 + two in level wind

So the wiffle spool from the 5600 WS (which is a C4 reel) should fit the C3 or C5 5600 reels.

The Record has the same bearings as C5 + bearings in each sideplate that support the shaft ends.  But Records use a different numbers scheme to differentiate size, and the parts numbers for the shafts are different than for the other C models.  I'm not sure that a spool assembly out of a record would fit a C3/4/5.  

The best thing to do is call Abu's service department.   They are very accessible and can answer your questions.

Cockroach, welcome to the forum. A 5600WS spool will fit a 5000 series C3,C4,or C5. You got me curious, so I took the spool from my 5600WS and tried it on all three. I would have tried the Record 50 spool, but it is in Alaska with my brother for a couple months. I suspect it will still fit in the others, although as Micro noted, part numbers are different. As far as different colors, I have never seen different colors available in the wiffle spool(just the 5600 gold and the Record baby blue).

My reels are already in effect C5's, with upgraded bearings etc.

I was pretty sure the 5600WS spool would fit, but I'd really like to know if the Record spools will drop in as well.

I've checked the schematics, and while the Record spool shaft is different, that could be just because of the extra bearings in the sides.

Maybe this spool would actually fit/work on the standard C3/C4/C5 shaft?

Anyone got one they could try for size  

i dont own a record but i think it could have a fixed shaft/spool

Any suggestions on spools for my 4601 & 6601?

I still suspect that the RCN 41 & 61 spools may fit, I've tried asking ABU parts, they didn't know, anyone out there got a RCN & a standard Ambassadeur who could compare spools?
