Custom Rods

Featured Replies

I am looking to purchase a custom rod and am looking for some advice. I have looked at the JMiles rods, Gblanks, and rods made by Cooks or Oregon. Cooks of Oregon uses loomis and croix blanks which I am kinda partial too. Jmiles rods look cool but they say they are im6 which doesn't sound that special, however that doesn't mean they aren't just as good. I would just like some advice. Right now I have 2 shimano crucials, a croix avid, a loomis walleye series and a lamiglas certified pro. Let me know if anyone has an opinion one way of the other.

Thanks :-/

Welcome aboard!

David Green (reelmechanic) is a BassResource.com sponsor.

Take a look at his website and give him a call. I'm sure he can

answer all your questions and maybe you will want him to build

a rod!

Thanks for the info I called them and they said they do not do custom rods unless you can come in.  Since I live in Michigan that is not an option.  He said they post some for sale on their site, and to just check to see if they have anything that is what I like.  I talked to his wife(?) and she was talking to him for me and they sounded a little confused but whatever.

Thanks for the info anyway

Whoa dude!

I am sorry things didn't work out, but there

may have been "circumstances". David Green

is our in-house Reel Mechanic and a HUGE

contributor to BassResource.com.

David periodically will have rods for sale that he has

built and most of us consider "custom". However, being

a perfectionist he considers "custom built" being made

exactly for you with consideration for the reel you

will match up with the rod.

So, don't get angry, I'm sure it was not their intention

to give you the impression that your business isn't wanted.

Whether you do business with The Reel Mechanic is up to you,

but he is held in high esteem around here.

I am not angry I just was a little surprised how I was treated. No big deal I wish I could just walk in and have him take measurements and everything else he needs because his rods look pretty amazing. I have no hard feelings I just wish I could get somethng of that quality around where I live.

OH WELL, LIFE GOES ON :)

At the moment, I only have 2 options for you.

Got to RBO and post there to find a builder, maybe you can find one locally, or at least one to take an order via phone or web.  http://www.rodbuilding.org/list.php?2

The other option is the Rod Builders Guild, they have a listing page but only list a small sampling of builders as far as I know.

http://www.rodguild.com/builderfinder.html

Good luck!  If you find a good builder let us know, I'm sure others will appreciate the info.

what exactly are you looking for? do you have a handle and guides already in mind or do you want the builder to pick them for you?

I want a 6'6" casting med or med hvy depending on the blank, fast or xfast, fuji guide alchonite or something similar. Split grip with preferably a skeletonized grip.  I would love to find something like the ones David green makes with the burle cork and some custom features but those are not a neccesity(sp?).

have you decided on your blank yet? Ill take a look at David Green's rods to see what you are talking about.

While I am a sponsor on this forum it is for my reel repair and servicing, NOT my rods...

I am sorry you think you were not treated right but apparently you didn't see the text at the top of my index and main pages that RW posted the link to that stated.......

"This site is for our local walk-in clients pre visit information only.

We no longer take internet orders for custom rods."

It was kind of weird I called and a woman answered and when I said I was interested in having a rod made she acted like I had the wrong number.  Then she starts yelling at someone in the background which i assume was the rod maker asking him questions the whole time yelling in my ear.  She was very short with me. Very professional Undecided After that I don't think I would order a rod from them anyway, although they look like they make really nice rods. That is just not how you treat people.

No bitterrness, I just won't use them or recommend them.

I don't think that she was short with you, and yes she had to talk to me from a distance because I was up to my elbows with a Calcutta 200 service.

Thanks for all the references. Sorry if I was a little upset. I was just very disappointed b/c your rods look amazing and I was very bummed that you don't do rods to order online, and yes I did see the heading after I got off the phone with you.  I was just frustrated b/c I have been looking for a rod builder that I like and I thought I forund the perfect one.  I guess I will keep an eye on your on hand stock that you list on your web site and see if I find something I like.

Sincerely,

Luke

I can get you a Jmiles for about 100 to 200 dollars and yes they do say IM6 but they are EXTREMELY sensitive. If you would like me too I can contact John. He is holding a fishing fair in 2 weeks. There I will take pictures of his artwork and talk to him for you if you want just PM me if you are interested and I will have a quote for you with what you want. John is a great guy and might even order a IM7 or whatever modulous rod blank you want. Matter of fact you can buy the blank and he will just do all the cosmetic work for you.

I can't beleive the one he still has listed hasn't sold.  Thats an incredible deal on a very versatile stick!!  It just might serve your purpose nicely!

I'll just have to get some 6'6" and 6'8" medium and medium-heavy blanks and get them built up. I have a couple of 7'ers in medium and medium-heavy that I can't put up because of blank issues after the build.

Tight Lines!!!

Take a look at what I just placed up on the for-sale page....
