How about that Daiwa Fuego?

I don't own any Daiwa reels (though I've had some in the past).  The current crop of Daiwas are really nice and the Fuego looks and feels terrific.   I'm planning on stimulating the economy when I get my rebate check.

I hardly ever see anyone mention this reel.  I know it's magnesium so it wouldn't get any brackish water use.   Otherwise, does anyone have any opinions?  How does it handle light baits (1/4 oz)?

Also, are Team Daiwa Cielo rods good?  Thoughts?

I have one nice relatively light reel not for light lures.

I noticed "The Natural" had one he was looking to dump for $175 in the flea market section.  That sounds like a pretty good price.

wait are we talking about spinning or casting? If casting I think cabelas has the left hand retrieve on sale.

Casting - right hand.

I was considering the fuego too but I want to wait to see what the new curado has to offer first.

I looked at the Fuego last year and almost brought one home but I decided to go with a Zillion. I have great success with this reel. I don't think the Fuego would have been a bad choice either but when I consider the other reels I own, I think of the Zillion as the workhorse of the bunch. It just gets the job done. It is not exceptional at one thing or the other when it comes to the aspects of a fishing reel, it's actually very good at all of them.

Can't comment on the Fuego, but I have a SOL spinning reel and it's like butta.

Love my fuego. Picked it up for 165 nib off the forums here. Put it on my carrot stix and together they form "the popsicle!" Can throw light baits and cast with ease. While casting the other day I noticed I could see the holes in the spool, time for more line.

i have a left hand retrieve Fuego teamed up with a G-Loomis GL3 thing is absolutely great....if you have the settings set right you can cast without putting your thumb on the spool...even when it hits the water...super smooth...i absolutley love it

I would go with the Daiwa X super-tuned or spend a little more and get  the zillion.

Thanks for all the replies.

I think the Diawa Sol is more designed for light baits.  It also weighs a tad less.  I personally have never fished one so keep that in mind.  However, I was looking in the BPS catalog the other day and noticed that the current Curado 100D weighs 7.4 oz just like the Sol (7.6 for the Fuego) and sells for less money.

I do have the Curado 100D and it is a very nice reel.  If you could pick one of those up for around $150 (they were just on sale with rebate for a total of $150) then that may be the way to go.  Both I am sure are absolutely awesome reels.

The Fuego is listed at 7.4oz as well as the curado 100d and sol. I like my fuego a lot more than my curado, and didn't pay much more for it. My brother has the sol, and I agree it is a great reel and likely better at throwing lighter baits, but between the two you can't go wrong.

My 2 cents is...

I  have 2 Fuego's and a Sol. I got them new from Sportsmans warehouse for $160 each. IMO they are well worth the $160-$180 that SW was, maybe still are, selling them for. But, IMO, I think they are a little overpriced at the $230 MSRP.

I have not used any lite lures with them, I use the Sol for those, so I can not say how it works with sub 3/8 oz lures. The Fuego has the Z brake, so it does work a little better than the Sol. I would think it can be adjusted to cast lite lures fine.
