When I got this reel  I was very excited about my purchase. It looks great and feels great. On the water it casts a mile and the twitchin' bar is awesome!. I have even wrote a report on this site stating my satisfaction with this reel. However, within 4-6 weeks of the reels use I began to experience numerous problems.

I could disengage the spool to cast but somtimes it would not rengage when I turned the handle so I would have to press the bail button up to renengage the spool. Secondly, the drag would not stay  set and would go to lesser settings. Lastly, on several occasions I would be in the middle of reeling in a fish and the drag would cease to function all together. My uncle and his friend both have this real and all 3 of us have returned it to Bass Pro for something different.

I suggest you spend a little more and buy something more sturdy if possible or plan on frequent exchanges.

Man, I was seriously thinking of buying a rh version (I prefer lefties) for my 3 year old son because I have noticed he is revealing a strong indication of doing things left handed for some things. (He writes with his right and prefers to reel with his right hand but prefers to swing golf clubs and bats left handed) This cheap reel would have been the ticket for me to fish opposite handed which I don't mind and also give him a reel to use.

With your updated report, it looks like I won't go that route.

Getting back to the thread, I don't think you could go wrong with a Cruxis or Citica. It is not too late for the rebate either.

i have two megaforces (along with some curados, revos, citicas, etc.). their castability is amazing...i get more distance on lighter lures with the megaforces with less backlash than practically any other reel i own (17 total). however, i find that i almost never use the twitchin' bar like i thought i would. there's also no place to rest your thumb on top of the reel if you're palming it because of the twitchin' bar. the reel is on the heavy side too. been using mine for about 8 months now and no reliability problems at all.

For what it's worth, I'm not having any trouble out of mine.  I would be very surprised if Daiwa had put out a reel that had not been thoroughly durability tested.  Now with lesser quality components and/or work, you may have a batch that has inferior attributes.  You must not confuse this with bad design though.

I have had mine for nearly a year now. Fished last summer, fall, and all this spring. I fish my reels hard. Almost daily use. I have had no problems at all. I love the feel of it, I like the twitching bar (especially for topwater frogs, and worms), great product in my opinion.

Hmm...

We have some complimentary reviews on this thread, but on almost all others, this is a reel that people who own them suggest steering clear.

Buyer beware.

I was just checking out ebay and saw a bunch of these reels.  It would appear that they are going for around $40.  With what I have heard and seen of this reel, the price is still to high....

if you buy it, keep the receipt. ;D  seriously, i had one and i took it back within a month.  the twitchin bar would get stuck right on top of the line on the spool.  it was a pain to unstick it too.   >:(

I had the same problems with mine. The free spool button sticks, (which is also true on my Daiwa 150HL). The drag comes loose on its own, and then it will still give line when tightened down all the way. Mine is headed back to BPS today.....
