FYI this seems to be the norm for spinning but not as much for BC which makes no sense. Again what works for you is what's right

If you're comfortable with it... It must be normal.   My strong arm is my right but i reel with that hand and hold the rod with my left.  I don't think you will be shunned for using your left hand.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am right handed but only fish with left handed reels.  I like this set up much better because I don't have to switch hands with the rod after the cast.  Pick what is comfortable to you.

Whatever feels right for you, I'm left handed but have my spinning and baitcasting reels with the reel on the right hand.

Spinning - I use my left hand to reel.

I've tried a Left Hand baitcaster, and it just feels too weird.

After using my baitcasters for a while I decided to try to switch my spinning handles.  That was the most akward feeling thing ever!!!  I know exactly what you mean.

Whatever works for you. There is no right or wrong, imo.

I'm the same way,but im left handed and when i cast spinning i cast with the left then put the rod in my right hand and start cranking

I reel with my right on both spinning and baitcasting, i guess im weird  :-[.

If your strong hand is your right, then that is were your rod should be. Remember, you dont fight the fish with your reel you fight it with your rod.

Let's get technical, as there are in fact reasons,

not just some lame holdover from days past that

put the handles where they are.

What will move the fish during retrieval is placed

to the strong hand!

A baitcast is designed to be used as a winch, so it

is the reel that retrieves the fish. Hence if you are

right handed the handle is in your right hand.

A spinning reel is designed to pick up unloaded or

loose line, not retrieve the fish. Hence it is the rod

that does the retrieval, so it is the rod that is in your

strong hand. If you are right handed then the pole

goes in the right hand.

That is true . But I always figured you would fight a lunker with the pole to help minimize the risk of breaking your line either way because your pole is the only give between the fish and your line.

The quality of the drag on your reel comes into play, particularly when a big smallmouth sees the boat! Every big brown fish I have ever caught has always made a second run at the boat. Without a properly set drag, that fish will be lost.
