I wanted your opinions on this. Do you guys think that the St. Croix rod power ratings are stiffer than other rod comapnies?

My problem is that I have a new shimano saros 2500 spinning reel that I would like to pair up with a St. Croix Premiere rod but I'm having trouble deciding on wether I should go with a M or M/H power rod. I want to mainly fish plastics around cover (wood, around weed beds and etc..) and some open water.

I'm a little concerned that the M/H might be too much rod for fishing senkos and other plastics weightless especially since I've heard that St. Croix rods are stiffer than other rods of the same power.

Any opinions?

id get the med .... st croix rods do seem more powerful compaired to other companys ....

one other question though. I do have an Avid series rod that I purchased some time ago will I notice a big difference going down to the premier series?

For "moving lures" some will say that sensitivity isn't that important and you can get away with a lesser rod. For soft plastics and jigs, touch is everything!

I you were moving "up" to a Premier, you would probably really like the rod, everyone that has one seems to rave about them. However, it doesn't work the other way around. As you move up the ladder, there is no going down.

Very good point sir... I'm thinking I should stick with the Avid Series.. so much for trying to save a buck!

As a rod builder that uses St Croix® blanks exclusively, moving from the factory Avid down to the factory Premier the biggest thing you will notice is the weight.

The Premier blanks out weigh the Avid on an average of about a 1/4oz., as far as sensitivity the Avid will always out produce the Premier because of the guide styles being used Fuji® Alconite on the Avid® as apposed to Batson® Forecast aluminum-oxide on the Premier..
