Preferred Braided Line

Featured Replies

I am looking into getting braided line and wondering just what brand everyone on here likes and why.

I am looking at Power Pro and Suffix at the moment.

Any help is great, :)

suffix ... ^^^ im with him

Spiderwire Stealth

Power Pro on baitcasters and Stren Superbraid on spinning reels because I just think it's not quite as stiff and handles better on the spinning gear.

Power Pro all the way, I haven't had a problem yet with it, no unexpected breakoffs and isn't quite as stiff as some of the other braids can be.

X2 on the powerpro.  You could cut diamonds with the stuff, but it's still soft!!!

Power pro 50lb and coming soon 65lb i like the yellow i don't believe colour matters. With yellow you can tell when a fish hits easily.

Well I decided to go with Suffix.  I spooled it up and will hopefully get to try it tomorrow.  Should I be using some line treatment?

Thanks, :)

I have tried them all, Power Pro, Spider Wire Stealth, Spider Wire Ultra Cast, and Suffix, and I would take the Spider Wire ultra cast over the others any day.

I just got some Powerpro, I've used it once, and I think its very good and i like it better than my old SpiderWire Stealth.

i cant beleive no one has talked about stren microfuse. I like it. It is a little stiff at first but once you get it broke in it is pretty sweet. Plus it is florescent. Killer night time spinner bait line. You can absolutly jack them up.

Power Pro - Reminder, when switching to braid the hook set is different and hopefully you have a limber fishing rod tip...

Any reason why you like the Suffix better?

Suffix , power pro ,strene super braid.

Try these three and make a choice of which one serves you the best.

The line wars continue.

I have been using PowerPro 30lbs and I love it, I can rip a bass out of any clump of lilly pads or weeds.

I have a question though, I was using a shimano power: light action: fast taper of my cousins, well then my cousin took it back.  So now I think I'm using a medium power fast action rod or maybe moderate action rod.  Should I switch back to mono?

power pro was the only braid i used before i started using suffix. out of the box power pro was real stiff to me, when i spooled it on my reels this chalky stuff came off the line, and when using the lighter test line the knots slipped unless i wrapped the uni knot 3 times more. out of the box suffix came more limp with that broken in feeling and the knots dont slip  ;D

When switching to braid....

What is the reason for using braid over mono or fluoro?

How do you match it with your reel if the manual says to use 12 or 14lb test?

Braided line is a lot more durable and also suppose to be a lot more sensitive.  Have yet to really see it myself, but I am also fairly new at this and I am just trying it out as well.

As far as line lbs, it is usually marked on the box.

For example:

50lbs braided = 12lbs mono

40lbs braided = 10lbs mono

30lbs braided = 8lbs mono

etc...

Hope that helps, :)

There appear to be plenty of folks using Sufix or Power Pro with success.

Any Fireline users out there who have tried all three and settled on Fireline? If so, what features do you like about Fireline?
