Crankbait reel question

Featured Replies

I've been throwing crankbaits for a couple of years now, with some success.  I'm looking into buying a new reel specifically for cranking.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to a reel that you would reccomend for deep diving cranks??? :-/

I recently got a revo winch and really, really like it.

One of the mods did a thread about swapping out the gears of a revo s with lower speed ones. That's an awesome option to save a bit of money.

Take a look at the Shimano CTE200GT, 5.0:1.

Shimano Curado 200DPV.  It's a little bigger than the Revo and sits nicely on a big cranking rod.  It's got a big spool with lots of line capacity.  Super tough, super smooth, casts a mile, and has a 5.0:1 gear ratio - ideal for big cranks.

The best part is there's still lots of them to be had.  My local tackle shop has several in stock, and BPS in Hampton, VA had several, too.  I can't help but believe there's a lot more sitting around.  I got mine on clearance for a tad under $100, but I know you can get them new for less now, since dealers are getting the 200E.

Anything near or around 5:1 will serve you well.  I happen to pleased with my Daiwa Sols for this.

I actually have a sol and I would have never thought of using it for cranks.  I might give it a try... :)

I wouldn't recommend the Sol for deep crankin'.

Zillion Crazy Cranker.....it doesn't get better.

I recently got a couple of the Winch's and I agree, they are a very nice reel.  Makes cranking a dream!
