help me choose reel for mbr 783C

Featured Replies

i need a baitcasting reel for my loomis mbr 783C. this is a 6'6" rod rated for 1/4 - 3/4 oz baits. i will mainly be using 3/8 oz jigs and 1/2 oz spinnerbaits with this rod. if possible, please post why you recommend the reel you suggest.

thanks in advance

Either a Shimano Curado 200E7 or a Revo STX/SX HS.

any good mg reel...mg50, core, steez.

light reels on a light rod are a god-send for tip-up.

for tip-down, the steez is the better of the three at handling the heavier pull baits such as spinnerbaits.

ymmv.

If the CH50MG or Core doesn't fit your budget, the Citica or Curado are very dependable reels. I would pop for the 2009 models being introduced, but the '08s are or will be on sale, bigtime!

I have that rod in IMX and I use a Curado 100D on it.  This is one of my favorite combos and I can fish most anything I want to with it, but it is mainly my jig and plastic set up.

the contestants ( top to bottom: citica/curado Ds in 100-size, curado 200E7 and revo SX)

and the winner is:

my reasons: the 783c is an awesome rod...super light and ultra sensitive. put the lightest and most-compact reel on that you can. the revo is an awesome reel and compact but is an ounce heavier than the curado E. and, since 6'6" is kinda short by today's standards, the E7's 7-to-1 gear ratio helps compensate for the length a little in helping to take up the slack faster before setting the hook.

(note: i think a pflueger summit LP may be a good choice too...i have one arriving in a few days)

thanks guys, im going to get the curado 200e7 (7:1) as soon as i get my new check card (someone in mexico decided to charge $1200 dollars on it so i had to cancel).

ive had nothing but good experiences with shimano, both fishing reels and mtn bike parts. all shimano xt and xtr on my mtn bike drivetrain.
