You will get a on of different answers, get ready. All depends on what model, what you want to do with it, ect....

And imo, G Loomis is worth every penny.

Buy what you can afford . If you fish a lot of plastics go with the loomis. For everything else a st. croix will do.

Both companies make great rods can't go wrong with either one. Buy what feels good and what you can afford.

G Loomis rods are definately worth the extra cash. If you have the money I would go with the loomis over the st. croix any day of the week. That being said, st. croix makes very good rods and if you can't justify spending the extra dough on a loomis, I'm sure you'll be happy with a st. croix.

For what it's worth, I have 6'6" Gloomis IMX and St Croix Avids in the MF.  The Gloomis is a bit lighter and maybe has a better feel but the Avids will handle heavier baits with a very good feel.

I have used both and too me they are both great rods.  the loomis would be better for plastics b/c they seem to be more sensitive but the st. croix would be awesome for everything else.  I would get a loomis spinning and a st.croix for the baitcaster.

I think Brass-Brat has it covered.

For my "all-around" baitcaster I have the St. Croix Avid AVS66MF

with a soft tip. You can use this rod for everything except soft plastics

and jigs. For these applications, the G. Loomis IMX MBR844C is

THE BOMB! However, I use mine almost exclusively for jigs.

For soft plastics I prefer spinning tackle (St. Croix ES70MF), but if

you need to save some money, I recommend the AVS68MXF or

AVS70MF.
