Quantum Accurist PT baitcast reel?

Recommended Posts

Ok, so instead of getting myself a low-end reel (my last topic: Daiwa Procaster_Daiwa MegaForce), i ended up purchasing a Quantum Accurist PT (the 7.1:1 burner version).

Good decision?  Have any of you used this reel before? How do/did you like it?  Does it last for a long time?  How's its cranking ability? Smooth?

I've owned a couple quantum reels in the past, the Energy PT spinning and the Energy PT baitcast.  The spinning reel i've used for about 4+ years and it's still like new today with minimal lube maintenance.  The baitcast, last week, totally blew up (not literally  ::)) and is beyond repair - a funny story for next time.  But overall, i really like the quality and reputation of Quantum, and it was on sale for a ridiculously low price (reg 130$, got it for 60$).... so i got the accurist.... and i hope i don't regret it.  but what's there to regret with 60$ huh? ;D  If i didn't have to pay for my college tuition, i would have treated myself with a Daiwa Steez  8-)

I own 10+ Accurists of varying flavor. Love them all and they have been very reliable for me.

But overall, i really like the quality and reputation of Quantum...

Well, it seems like you have already made a decision and I guess you're just looking for confirmation. Although Quantum has a small following, their overall reputation sucks...If you are looking for an alternative in the same general price range, be patient and shop around. You will find a Citica D which is an outstanding reel, considered by many to be the "best value" in the Shimano line-up.

p.s.

My comments are NOT to be interpreted as being disrespectful to bassnleo or any other Quantum fan. bassnleo is a quality guy, well respected member of this forum and an outstanding tournament fisherman. Obviously, his experience with Quantum reels has been very good and others have had the same good fortune. Perhaps the Accurist PT is right for you, too.

Quantums in general are strong and reliable, for me they weight a bit too much but I fished with them for many year without any problems until my casting arm needed something lighter.

Another one of the few Quantum loyals here. I have several of the older model Accurists and like them alot. I decided to move up to the Energies when the newer model Accurists came out (no issues with the Accurist, just like the Energy a little better) so I can't comment on the Burner Accurist. The only issue I've had with any of my Accurists was from operator error (ReelMech helped me on that issue). For the price, I'd say you made a great choice! My only suggestion would be to have it cleaned and relubed to remove that Hot Sauce. Not a fan of it!

I have no problem with Quantum, I also own 3 Accurist PT's. Have had one for a few years and liked it so much I boght 2 more this fall when they went on sale. I am sad to see Quantum discontinue them. If your on an even tighter budget, the Accurist CX is also an excellant reel, own several of those too. I think Quantum gets it's bad reputaion from it's shoddy products it was putting out 10 years ago, and the fact they still make alot of low quality, low end stuff. There higher grade stuff has come along way in the last few years, and the Accurist, Energy, and Tour casting reels are as good as any one else's high end stuff. There spinning reels don't impress me though. Quantum would do itself a HUGE favor by dropping it's name off the low end crap that litters the Wal-Mart fishing isle.

I have one and still have it....Only real gripe i can give it is the paint on it scratches and fades easily.

Performance wise...it's a very decent reel. For $60 you got an awesome reel.I wouldn't pay the $130 price tag that i brought mine for.

I bought several quantum reels, but not the one your speaking of. My experience with quantum in general has been pretty good, but now that I've jumped on the shimano train, theres no going back. Look for a used citica or curado in your price range, you wont regret it.

I bought one last year in the 6.3:1 and liked it so much I went back and bought another.

It seems that Quantum has outlived the bad rep its early baitcasters got.  Its recent products have been much better quality.
